ABOUT Calvaro
PEDIGREE Calvaro's sire, Caletto 1, is currently ranked fifth in the WBFSH world rankings for producing show-jumpers. His mother Deka by Consul made breeding history as mother of five approved sons. Caletto 1 was one of the most successful horses in sport. Under Michael Rupling, Caletto 1 jumped at international level and his best achievement was the individual bronze medal at the 1982 Dublin World Championships. After his show jumping career lasting five years, the son of Cor de la Bryere had won more than 100 000 D-Mark - more than any other German breeding stallion before him. The most successful son of Caletto I until Calvaro FCS, was Cantus, the father of Calvaro 005, ridden by Willi Melliger. In Germany alone there are now six approved sons by Caletto I: Cabochon - approved last year, Camaro, Cambridge - himself competing in jumping sport and father of approved sons, the 1992 Champion stallion Cassandro as well as Catango and Corletto. In his first breeding period before entering the international sport circuit Caletto I produced several mothers of later international sport horses, like f.e. Adelfos by Athlet Z - Caletto I (Markus Fuchs), Valesca by Athlet Z - Caletto I (Dr. Michael Rupling), Aldatus by Aldato - Caletto I (Jos Lansink) and Lagretto by Landgraf I - Caletto I (Carsten- Otto Nagel). Last year the most winning offspring by Caletto I were Cabrol Amicor (Holger Wulschner), Capuccino (Bernd Herbert), HGF Fine Kiss (Gilbert Bockmann) and Calvaro FCS, who was competing for Great Britain with John Whitaker in the Sydney Olympics. Totally Caletto I offspring have won more than two million D-Mark. Calvaro's dam Rixa, is a daughter of another top-class sire,Capitol 1 (Capitano). Capitol 1 has a large number of successful progeny in international showjumping. He is currently ranked by the WBFSH the worlds number one sire for producing show-jumpers. Particularly noteworthy in his pedigree is Retina (by Ramzes) with whom Fritz Thiedemann achieved great successes decades ago. One of his best sons in 2000 was Cento who won the Aachen Grand Prix, shared team gold in Sydney and only missed an individual medal by one rail.If we follow Calvaro FCS's dam's lineage back through we find the influential Farnese son Fantus to a beautifully bred Hanoverian female line that carries the blood of Sesam II and Goldfisch II that is one ofthe most influential blood lines in Hanover. PERFORMANCE Calvaro FCS was 1997 Dutch Champion and came 2nd in the German Classics and Pulsar Crown, in Monterrey and in Valkenswaard, as well as claiming silver for the team at the 1997 Mannheim European Championship. In 1998 Calvaro FCS jumped the Rome World Championship with Jos Lansink. In 1999 Michael Whitaker took over the ride on Calvaro FCS where he competed successfully in The European Championships at Hickstead. he was also a regular member of The Great Britain Nations Cup Team with success at Dublin and Aacen. 1997 - National Dutch Champion, Jos Lansink 1997 - Silver Medal Team European Champ's, Jos Lansink 1998 - 9th World Equestrian Games and 0,4 Team, Jos Lansink 1998 - 2nd Grand Prix Monterey, Jos Lansink 1998 - 2nd Pulsar Crown-German Classic, Jos Lansink 1999 - European Champ's, Michael Whitaker 1999 - 2nd Grand Prix of Great Britain, Michael Whitaker 2000 - Winner of G.P. of Great Britain, John Whitaker 2000 - 0,4 in team Olympic Games Sydney, John Whitaker PROGENY Due to his show jumping commitments Calvaro himself started his stud career late. However, in his first season, he produced 232 foals and in his second season 248 while standing at Zangershiede with a stud fee of £1,600. At his first auction, his foals were selling from between £5,500 to £10,500. Calvaro FCS oldest progeny are only three this year. They are very athletic with great movement and show their sire's good temperament. When jumped loose they show fantastic ability. At a recent loose jumping competition in Belgium when out of a total of 200 horses there were 50 through to the final. It was no suprise to find 10 of them were Calvaro's.
